A timeline of UFO sightings in Weston, Redding, and Easton

From 1966 to the present day, a number of area residents report witnessing unexplainable lights in the skies above Weston, Redding, and Easton — with a number of reports concentrated around the Saugatuck Reservoir. Many describe a star-like light which hovers just above the treeline.

1966 - Darien dentist Harry Neilsen spots a large triangular glow over the Saugatuck Reservoir. (Herald-Journal Newspaper, Dec. 7, 1966)
1974 – Frank Bozzuto spots a “bright greenish-blue light” while on security duty for a movie set at Easton’s Shaker House. “There was no noise, and no smell,” he said. (Redding Pilot archives. Published July 11, 1974)
June 1975 – Trudy Seidman spots a bright, star-like object traveling from Georgetown towards Bethel. (Redding Pilot archives. Published June 12, 2975)
September 1975 - A witness in Weston reported to the National UFO Reporting Center in 2007 that, on the night of Sept. 23, 1975, she and her husband witnessed a bright white light take off from their yard “at a very high rate of speed.” (NUFORC database. Published Feb. 1, 2007)
September 1976 – A member of The Redding Pilot news team and his wife have two experiences with an orange light in the sky on the same night. The newsman’s wife claimed the light had followed her home. (Redding Pilotarchives. Published Sept. 2, 1976)
November 1976 – Eva Dieringer spots a saucer shaped object with green lights that lands near Joel Barlow High School. She became so frightened that she was “nearly” sick. (Redding Pilot archives. Published Nov. 11, 1976)
1978 – Leon Adams spots a very bright light over the Saugatuck Reservoir while on his way to work at the Gilbert & Bennett wiremill in Georgetown. It performs a dazzling display of maneuvers. (Redding Pilot archives. Published March 9, 1978)
Spring 1985 – A witness reported to the National UFO Reporting Center in 2005 that, around April, 1985, he and others with him witnessed a dome shaped object hovering over the Saugatuck Reservoir with a “large yellowish ball” protruding from the bottom. “It followed us as she very quickly drove along the reservoir,” they said. February 2003 – A witness in Weston reports to the National UFO Reporting Center they saw a “Bright light in sky. Not an airplane because it didn’t move. Not a star because it was twinkling white, green and red lights. To the left was another star-like light that seemed to blink a few times then stop.” (NUFORC database, Published Mar. 22, 2003.)
September 2010 – A witness in Redding reports to the National UFO Reporting Center they saw a bright light that slowly moved through the sky and seemed to have striations that looked like lightning bolts emanating from it. (NUFORC database, Published Nov. 11, 2010.)
February 2011 – A witness reports to the National UFO Reporting Center they had seen a “flashing bright red light low on the horizon a mile or so away over the Devil’s Den area on the Weston/Redding border. It was low in the sky and unusually bright, much brighter than any airplane lights, flashing and drifting very slowly. (NUFORC database, Published Feb. 23, 2011.)
October 2013 to early 2014 – Reporter Christopher Burns and a number of corroborating witnesses see and document an orange light that regularly appears at the southeast side of the Saugatuck Reservoir
